This video was recently created to promote the Vancouver Business Career Expo. The event attracts nearly 100 employers and over 1000 business students at both the graduate and undergraduate level from SFU and Sauder (UBC) schools of business. Every year, the attendees (business students) select a group of employers who they feel were most organized and who impressed them the most. For 2009 (2010’s event was rescheduled due to the Olympics) the employers were Telus, BC Liquor Distribution Branch, Research in Motion, Sun Life Financial, BC Hydro, Best Buy Canada, Deloitte, and Department of National Defense. Narrator: Welcome to the Vancouver Business Career Expo
Host (Ryan Schmidt): Welcome to the 2009 Business Career Expo here in Vancouver. It’s going to be pretty exciting, we’re going to walk around and introduce you to a few of the employers here at the Business Career Expo. This is put on jointly by SFU’s Segal and UBC’s Sauder schools of business here in Vancouver.
Narrator: The definitive event of the year for any career savvy business student in Vancouver, the business career expo offers an unprecedented opportunity for both students and employers to develop an understanding of British Columbia’s current business environment. The event attracts companies such as Best Buy, Telus, Deloitte, The Bank of Montreal, a nearly 80 others, ranging from thousands of employees to just a handful. For Exhibitors, the event allows visibility to over 900 undergraduate business students and 200 graduate business students studying here in Vancouver, nearly 75 percent of whom are in their last year of study. Lets hear what some of the students have to say about their experience.
SFU MBA Student (Brian Haines): It’s been a great opportunity to meet with people in the industry as far as getting contacts when I’m out looking for a job when my program ends. It’s been an all around god experience.
SFU MBA Student (Oba Harding): The great thing about an event like this is that you’ll be surprised to see how much your opportunities open up once you start to think laterally about how your skills can be applied to different industries or positions.
SFU Undergraduate Business Student: This is a great opportunity to see the different companies and get an idea of what employers are looking for in an employee.
UBC Business Student: I came into the event looking for different opportunities ot see what was out there rather than having a focus. I think it’s a great event for that. You get a chance to fins out from the different companies what they want and what they’re looking for.
SFU Undergraduate Business Student 2: It’s been great, there are a lot of employers here, and certainly a lot of students coming to see the event. There are a lot of great opportunities to get to see what’s out there [as a Business Student].
