Deciding to transition from my full-time job to a full-time MBA program was both thrilling and challenging, particularly in the dynamic corporate world. I had established myself as a Finance Associate at a reputable pharmaceutical company in the healthcare sector. However, I felt constrained in terms of career advancement opportunities. Additionally, losing half of my undergraduate degree due to COVID made me realize the necessity of acquiring more skills and deepening my interest in finance. Choosing to leave my job for an MBA was a tough decision.
I gained invaluable expertise in the intricacies of financial management within the healthcare industry through my work as a finance associate. However, my focus shifted towards obtaining a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) because I wanted to broaden my horizons and understand companies from the inside out. I saw this as an opportunity to refine my abilities and delve into various facets of business that an MBA degree may cover.
After carefully weighing the potential benefits and risks, I committed to pursuing the MBA. While not working for a year incurred a significant opportunity cost, the long-term benefits of acquiring advanced skills and knowledge were too appealing to overlook. Simon Fraser University stood out as the ideal choice due to its MBA program, offering not only theoretical insights but also practical experiences applicable to real-world scenarios. The university’s commitment to a concise yet impactful curriculum aligned well with my preference for a focused and intensive learning experience. The faculty’s expertise and the university’s reputation for fostering a diverse and collaborative learning environment were standout factors. Learning from experienced professionals and engaging with a diverse cohort of peers strengthened my determination to embark on this transformative journey.
Certainly, transitioning from my role as a Finance Associate to a full-time MBA program is a significant change, but it’s also incredibly exciting and provides opportunities for both personal and professional growth. At Simon Fraser University, I’m eager to engage in learning as a student, collaborate with teams on projects, and handle tasks like a business professional. I can’t wait to tackle new challenges and emerge from this experience with a set of skills that extend beyond just finance, making me a versatile business professional.
