My journey with SFU has just begun! Less than 2 months ago, I started my MBA Program at Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University. And the last two weeks are the highlights of my time at SFU so far.
What a fantastic weekend it was! I had the opportunity to represent the University at BC MBA GAMES 2021 which is a provincial level competition hosted by Thompson River University. Over the last two weeks the team has worked tirelessly while managing their heavy course load and some of us while working full-time. The Competition had various components – Academic, Sports, and Spirit events. Albeit a challenging endeavour, our team was motivated and in high spirits. The hard work and efforts were worth it all! I am so proud to be part of such an amazing team! SFU bagged 2nd place in the competition.
This is my 1st semester as an MBA Student with the SFU Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University. I work full-time as a Project Manager and attend school twice a week in the evenings and some weekends. My decision to participate in a case competition was not an easy one as it meant adding more commitments to an already full schedule. However, my reasons to partake in this competition were driven by my desire to learn and develop skills beyond the classroom training. My expectation from case competitions were to hone my analytical and communication skills as well as solving complex business problems in an intense team environment which is crucial in today’s competitive world. It was a wonderful experience which allowed me to understand how it feels to have a seat at the big table making important decisions in a time-crunch.
The competition weekend and the weeks leading up to the competition was exhilarating and delivered what I anticipated. I learned a lot more about myself as a person, as a team member, and the benefits of participating in the competition. Being able to think critically and clearly in a time-crunching environment can help one become a respected decision maker. More importantly, I am grateful for the opportunity to network with other schools in BC while creating memorable moments.
I am really excited for more opportunities in the future to make the best of my MBA program.
